One Man's Perception Of Male Pattern Baldness

Ed was a young man who was very proud to identify himself with his father and his family members. He spoke of his father and family with admiration and pride. When he was questioned on the subject of weight and family features his comments were basically clear he expected himself to be just like the family. He had no questions about it. His ideas on both weight and male pattern baldness was basically the same. He looked at his family members in expectation as to what he could look forward to . He expected to be fat and bald because his father was both fat and bald. He said " look at my family do you see many thin people" .
His take on male pattern baldness was basically the same . He expected to be bald because the man he knew as his father was bald. He never considered that male pattern baldness was passed to him because of a gene from his mother. I found it very interesting that even today with all of the technology and information that men still look at their fathers and study their features and draw a final conclusion, " I can expect to look like this man because he is my
father".

Male Pattern Baldness: Is There Hope?

Is there hope concerning male pattern baldness? I am sure you have heard the pharse "never say never." Many studies have been conducted on male pattern baldness and baldness in terms of retaining hair and regrowing hair. Many believe that there is hope and the hope maybe found in the form of a number of chemials and potions that have been put together .
Let us look at some factual information concerning human hair. Hair grows at a rate of
35 nm per day. It takes about six months before new hair will reach its full growth.
The life span of hair in the human scalp is about six months.
There are chemicals compounds and some of these are hormones that have been studied
to see their effects on the growth of hair on the scalp. Some of these chemical compounds
that have been studied in connection to hair loss for various reasons including male pattern
baldness. Some of these chemicals studied inconnection to hair loss include neoprene
chloroprene, sulfhydryls, skualene and human hormones.

Various causes of baldness

Baldness( alopecia) may occurr for several reasons. These will be discussed here.

1. Nerves or stress related conditions - Some individuals may undergo various situations
that may cause the body to be under tremendous stress. In some individuals this may
result in hair loss or baldness. It is not certain if this may also play a part in what has been labelled male pattern baldness.

2. Infectious Diseases---- It has been documented that some individuals have experience hair loss or baldness after being exposed to certain infections in the body.

3. Hereditary factors---- There have been studies done that has proven that baldness is far more common in males than females; hence the term male pattern baldness has been coined.
This is also proof that the allele that can cause baldness can be passed on to the male offspring from the mother. This allele will manifest itself more often in the male as opposed to a female offspring because of the genotype of the female. The male possess the genotype XY and the female the genotype XX. It is believed that the X chromosome carries the gene for male pattern baldness therefore making the male offspring a carrier which will also manifest the gene for baldness quicker than his female sibling.

4. Environment Factors and Baldness--- There are known cases of people who have been exposed to chemicals and have experienced hair loss. It is not certain if this can be linked to what has been termed male pattern baldness but studies have indicated that chemical have been linked to baldness in various organisms. Cases have been documented that have listed the exposure to certain drugs and compounds as sources that will cause baldness and or loss of hair in humans and some other organisms.
